Abstract: Ninevolt Print Studio
My love for design and printmaking. Under the name NineVolt Print Studio, this small but audacious print shop offers screenprinting, street art, and much more. The name "NineVolt" is derived from the inefficient but quick-fix batteries used to power guitar pedals, while referencing the industrially-charged spirit of post-punk culture. This one-of-a-kind studio focuses on the production of print materials surrounding the punk scene, while creating space for expression and experimentation in this independent niche. For me, NineVolt represents more than just the embodiment of my attraction to the post-punk subculture. It also presents itself as a divergent moment in my design arsenal, by tackling a new and unfamiliar style. A designer who masters a single aesthetic is simply a technician. They have the tools and knowledge required to solve a familiar problem. But a designer who views each and every challenge through its contextual and historical lenses is not a technician at all; but an inventor. They are able to see past the limitations of habit and trend, in order to express the full-spectrum of creative individuality that exists within the narrative at hand. And although NineVolt is only the beginning of my divergent exploration, I look forward to delving deeper into the cultural narrative and aesthetic of the post-punk scene.
